High Art, High Camp, High-larity! *UPDATED
High Art, High Camp, High-larity! *UPDATED

I’m currently in the middle of shooting a new operatic feature film, The Divorce.

The piece is definitely an opera in scale – luscious scenery, big characters, and sweeping stories of love, art, crime and reunited parents! – but all within an modern-day setting, and totally at home on film. It’s a wonderful, fresh project that should excite people when it’s released later this year.

The film – also being released as a 4-part series – is produced by ABC, Princess Pictures and Opera Australia, and is shot on location at Werribee Mansion.

The Divorce writer Joanna Murray-Smith, surrounded by some of the talented cast: Stefanie Jones, Johanna Allen, Andrew Marshall, Chris Kirby, Phillip Calcagno, Matt McFarlane, Rod Waterworth, Christina Tan, Luke Alleva, Kate Cole and myself.

The best part of this job is the people I get to hang out with every day. I’m part of the ensemble of supporting characters, made up of some of the most talented music theatre actors in the country. Many I’ve worked with before, some I’ve only seen and admired on stage, all are wicked professionals and hilarious humans – I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so much and still been paid for my time! The main cast of Marina Prior, Lisa McCune, John O’May, Matt McFarlane, Hugh Sheridan, Kate Miller-Heidke, Melissa Madden-Gray, and Peter Cousens are equally brilliant and funny, and the crew – rare for such large, strenuous projects – are without exception the loveliest, warmest, most wonderful people.

I can’t wait to see how it all turns out, and hope you enjoy it when it does!
